The Future of Carbon Markets

Exploring Outcomes from the Extended Table of Article 6 Seminar in Chile

Minister of Environment Maisa Rojas

In a significant step towards environmental stewardship, as Sherpas, we recently participated in the concluding seminar of the "Extended Table of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement," discussing the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in Chile. The seminar, marking the culmination of a series of meetings, presented key outcomes and strategies, marking a significant milestone in our journey toward environmental stewardship.

The seminar brought together influential voices in the climate change arena, including Minister of Environment Ms. Maisa Rojas, Climate Change Chief Ms. Jenny Mager, and Climate Negotiation Expert Ms. Cristina Figueroa. Their insights were instrumental in framing the potential of Article 6 as a transformative tool for Chile's climate policy, extending beyond the fulfillment of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to fostering a broader environmental impact.

The discourse centered around leveraging Article 6 not just as a tool to meet Chile's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) but as a catalyst for broader, more impactful environmental action. Minister Rojas emphasized the need for innovative approaches in carbon market mechanisms, highlighting the potential of collaborative efforts between public and private sectors. Jenny Mager delved into the technical aspects, outlining the challenges and opportunities in operationalizing Article 6, particularly in the context of Chile's unique environmental landscape. Cristina Figueroa's insights into the global climate negotiation dynamics provided a broader perspective on how Chile can position itself as a leader in climate action.

At Sherpas, we are deeply invested in this dialogue. Our commitment goes beyond meeting targets; we strive to be at the forefront of shaping a sustainable future. The seminar reinforced our belief that the implementation of Article 6 in Chile is more than a policy challenge – it's an opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and lead in the global effort towards carbon neutrality.

As we reflect on the insights from the seminar and our own contributions, we are more determined than ever to drive the conversation forward. We believe that by working together, we can not only achieve our NDCs but also set new benchmarks in environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

Join us in this pivotal movement toward a sustainable future. Together, we can turn the aspirations of the Paris Agreement into tangible actions, leading the way to a greener, more resilient world.
